FLATLAND CAVALRY

At some point between Lubbock and Midland, the land shifts from endless cotton rows and rich farmland into pump jacks and mesquite tree filled pastures. Lubbock roots-country outfit Flatland Cavalry straddles that line between the Panhandle and the badlands of West Texas with their bright, earthy country ballads and gritty folk ramblers. Vocalist and chief songwriter Cleto Cordero’s honest, smooth songwriting revolves around the vernacular world of West Texas that he’s constructed with dusty, sun-soaked character sketches, brooding self-evaluations, and candid love songs that all have the ability to turn into singalong anthems.
Formed in the fall of 2012, the quintet was rounded up by Cordero after stretches of acoustic outings around the Panhandle town of Lubbock. With guitarist Reid Dillon, fiddler Laura Jane, bassist Jonathan Saenz, and drummer Jason Albers joining Cordero, Flatland quickly garnered the attention of the masses with the release of the debut EP, Come May, in the spring of 2015. Building off the success of Come May, Cordero and company released their full-length follow-up, Humble Folks, in April 2016.

JAKE WARD

Jake Ward has been called the “#1 Best Kept Secret” on the Texas music scene. Well, the secret is out, as Jake’s third and fourth singles released to Texas radio, “Take my Hand” and “Lonely Street” both reached #1 on Texas Regional Radio Report in 2016. Three years after Jake and the band cut their first single, they have developed a reputation for high-energy original songs, blending classic country with contemporary rock and rich harmonies. All of these qualities are on display in their live shows and recordings.

Growing up, Jake was surrounded by diverse musical influences. He fondly recalls sitting in the back seat of the car listening to Elvis, the Beach Boys, the Eagles, Johnny Cash, George Strait, and other performers from many eras and musical traditions. His great grandfather was a legendary local fiddle player in rural Oklahoma during the depression, and his maternal grandparents were missionaries who taught and recorded music. Jake performed for the first time at the age of 7 at church, and by age 10 had participated in several local musicals in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Jake made his public debut as a country artist in 2014 at Larry Joe Taylor’s festival, where he played what would become the first single, “Hit the Road.” He and the band cut the song as a demo and it made its way onto local radio stations, eventually reaching the top 30 and becoming one of the top 100 Texas radio songs of 2014. Increasingly successful singles followed, including “Ignorant Bliss” (#16), and 2 back-to-back #1 singles, “Take my Hand (#1 March, 2016)” and “Lonely Street (#1 September 2016).” Jake’s much anticipated new single, “Restless” was released to Texas radio in May, 2017.

The band released their first album, “Love Don’t Live Here,” in September, 2015 with ten original songs. The album bears the band’s signature blend of Jake’s soulful vocals with superlative guitar by virtuoso lead guitarist, Paul Teltschik, and country fiddle by Owen Fitzsimmons.

The band plays shows throughout Texas with many of the biggest names in Texas music including Aaron Watson, Chris Young, Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, Cody Johnson, Kevin Fowler, Stoney Larue, Roger Creager, Reckless Kelly, Whiskey Myers, Kyle Park, and others.

Jake is currently recording his second full length record scheduled for release in the fall of 2017.
